Gift Guides: The Perfect Gift for Every Occasion

Adele Day • June 12, 2023

Flowers have a unique way of conveying emotions and are considered one of the most timeless and heartfelt gifts. From joyous celebrations to expressing sympathy and everything in between, there is an occasion for every bouquet.

In this blog post, we will explore the significance of gifting flowers for various occasions and provide you with our recommendations for choosing the perfect perfect floral arrangement and gifts to suit each occasion.

Birthdays and Anniversary Flowers

Birthdays and anniversaries are joyous milestones that deserve to be celebrated with beautiful blooms. Bright and vibrant flowers such as Red Roses or Sunflowers are two of our most popular choices at Ruby Oak Floristry. If you are looking for something more, you can’t go wrong with our Birthday Hamper, which features our signature floral arrangements combined with a beautiful selection of Australian made gifts.

Valentine’s Day and Romantic Gestures

Valentine’s Day is always one of most busiest days of the year. It’s the perfect day to express your affection with a bouquet of romantic flowers. Red roses have long been associated with love and for good reason they are always the most popular choice, but you can also explore other options like tulips or the ever so beautiful long-lasting Phalaenopsis Orchids. Don’t forget to add a heartfelt note and a gourmet block of chocolate to really spoil your loved one.

Graduations and Achievements

Graduations and achievements are significant milestones that deserve recognition and congratulations. April is a popular time for florists with graduations commencing at Wollongong University so we recommend pre-ordering your flowers to beat the rush. Our colourful mixed bouquets are always a great choice to celebrate success and to say congratulations. We personally recommend our ‘Pop of Colour‘ fresh flower bouquet which is sure to put a smile on the recipient’s face. Include a congratulatory message with one of our premium gift cards, all of which are Australian made.

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day provide an opportunity to honour and appreciate the parental figures in our lives. Mother’s Day is easily the busiest day of the year for all Wollongong Florists. Every florist in Wollongong will cap deliveries prior to the Sunday, so make sure you put your order in well in advance to guarantee you don’t miss out. For Mother’s Day, we offer a limited range of mixed bouquets to ensure we can deliver the freshest and best flowers to all the Wollongong Mums. This changes every year so keep a look out for our Mother’s Day options in mid-April each year.

For Father’s Day, we find our Plant & Goodies Hamper is a great option to spoil the dads. Father’s are hard to buy for at the best of times, so you can’t go wrong with an indoor plant and some chocolates. Nobody will ever say no to that!

Weddings and Anniversaries

Weddings and anniversaries call for elegant and romantic floral arrangements that capture the essence of love and commitment. Every wedding is different and every bride has a different style. We recommend browsing pintrest and our Event Gallery page to find what you like best, then fill out our detailed wedding questionnaire so we can provide you with an accurate quotation for your big day.

To celebrate an Anniversaries, we think a dozen Red Roses fit the occasion perfectly! But if you are looking for something less tradition, take a look at our ‘Pink Love‘ bouquet.

Sympathy and Condolences

Flowers play a significant role in expressing condolences and offering solace during difficult times. White lilies, chrysanthemums, or roses are often used in funeral arrangements, symbolising purity, peace, and love. It is customary to choose subdued and elegant arrangements, such as wreaths, standing sprays, or sympathy bouquets, to convey sympathy and support to grieving individuals. White flowers are the most common choice to send a message of sympathy, with our most popular choices being our ‘Sympathy Whites’ bouquet or our ‘Funeral Wreath‘ in Crisp Whites.

Visit our dedicate Funeral and Sympathy page for a full overview of the services we provide.

Get-Well-Soon and Hospital Visits

When someone is unwell or hospitalised, a vibrant bouquet of flowers can help lift their spirits and bring a touch of nature to their recovery space. Choose cheerful and uplifting flowers such as daisies, sunflowers, or tulips, and opt for arrangements in bright colours. We deliver to all Hospitals throughout the Illawarra, delivering to Wollongong Public Hospital & Wollongong Private Hospital twice daily.

In conclusion, gifting flowers is a timeless tradition that allows us to express our emotions and celebrate significant moments in life. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or a moment of sorrow, the language of flowers can convey sentiments with grace and beauty. By carefully selecting the appropriate blooms and considering the occasion, you can create meaningful connections and make lasting impressions with your floral gifts.

Three potted plants are sitting on white blocks — Flowers in Fairy Meadow, NSW
By Jackson Barron December 22, 2023
At Ruby Oak Floristry, our passion for all things nature beyond just cut flowers. We also love our indoor plants, and how they can transform any space into a lush and inviting oasis. To ensure that your indoor plants are healthy and thriving for years to come, it’s crucial to provide them with proper care. In this blog, we’ll explore the essentials of indoor plant care, and hopefully provide you with the knowledge you need to become successful plant parents. 1. Choosing the Right Plant The first step to successful indoor plant care is selecting the right plant for your space and lifestyle. Consider factors such as: Light requirements: Different plants have varying light needs, ranging from low light to bright, indirect sunlight. Match your plant to the available light in your space. Watering needs: Some plants like to stay consistently moist, while others prefer to dry out between waterings. Choose a plant that aligns with your watering habits. Space availability: Ensure you have adequate space for your chosen plant’s mature size. Overcrowding can hinder growth and health. 2. Proper Potting and Soil The right pot and soil are essential for your plant’s overall health. When potting your indoor plant, keep these tips in mind: Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent overwatering and root rot. Use a well-draining potting mix specific to your plant’s needs, such as cactus soil for succulents or a general-purpose mix for common houseplants. Repot your plant as it outgrows its current pot to prevent root-bound issues. 3. Watering Overwatering is one of the most common mistakes made by indoor plant owners. To ensure you’re providing the right amount of moisture, follow these guidelines: Water your plant when the top inch of soil is dry for most houseplants. Avoid letting your plant sit in standing water, as it can lead to root rot. Empty the saucer beneath the pot after watering. Use room-temperature water to avoid shocking the plant. 4. Humidity Many indoor plants, especially tropical varieties, thrive in higher humidity. To maintain the right humidity levels: Group your plants together to create a microclimate with increased humidity. Use a humidity tray or mist your plants regularly with a spray bottle. Invest in a room humidifier for a more controlled approach. 5. Pruning and Maintenance Regular maintenance helps your indoor plants remain healthy and attractive: Prune dead or yellowing leaves to promote new growth. Rotate your plant regularly to ensure even growth and prevent leaning toward the light source. Dust the leaves to keep them free from debris, which can hinder photosynthesis. 6. Fertilisation Indoor plants benefit from occasional fertilization, typically during their growing season (spring and summer). Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer and follow the instructions for your specific plant. 7. Pest Control Keep an eye out for common indoor plant pests like aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs. Address any infestations promptly with natural remedies or insecticidal soap. In short, indoor plants can bring beauty and a breath of fresh air to any space, but caring for them requires some knowledge and commitment. So whether your a seasoned green thumb or new to the world of indoor plants, follow these tips and your plants will be thriving in no time!
